They are both iconic and revered in Thai culture, but sadly their existence is threatened by habitat loss and human exploitation. Fortunately, there are dedicated organizations that work tirelessly to rescue and rehabilitate elephants in need. In this article, I will introduce you to some of the top elephant rescue centers in Thailand.
One of my personal favorite elephant rescue centers is the Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai. Founded by Lek Chailert, this sanctuary is home to over 80 rescued elephants who are given the chance to peacefully roam the expansive forested grounds. Visitors can enjoy a variety of activities such as feeding the elephants, walking with them, and even bathing them in the river. Not only is the Elephant Nature Park committed to elephant welfare, but they also support surrounding communities by providing jobs and education.
Another worthwhile elephant sanctuary to visit is the Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand in Petchaburi province. Here, elephants receive medical care and rehabilitation after being rescued from dangerous or neglectful situations. In addition to elephants, you will also find other rescued animals such as bears, monkeys, and birds. Visitors can volunteer to help with the feeding and care of these incredible creatures.

Boon Lott's Elephant Sanctuary
Boon Lott's Elephant Sanctuary (BLES) is another well-known elephant rescue center in Thailand. It is located in the Sukhothai Province, in Northern Thailand, and it was founded by a woman named Katherine Connor, who was inspired by her love for elephants and her dedication to their welfare.
The center is a haven for elephants who have been rescued from the logging and tourism industries. At BLES, elephants are free to roam and interact with one another, and they are given the opportunity to live out their lives in peace and safety.

ENP Sister Park – Elephant Haven
ENP Sister Park, also known as Elephant Haven, is the newest addition to the network of elephant rescue centers in Thailand. It is located in the Kanchanaburi Province, in Western Thailand, and it was founded by Sangduen "Lek" Chailert, the same founder of Elephant Nature Park.
Elephant Haven is based on the same model as Elephant Nature Park, and it aims to provide a safe and natural environment for rescued elephants to live in peace and freedom. Visitors can learn about the elephants and participate in various activities, such as feeding and observing them.
Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand
The Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand is an animal sanctuary and rescue center that focuses on a variety of animals, including elephants. It is located in the Petchaburi Province, in Central Thailand, and it was founded by a man named Edwin Wiek, who has devoted his life to animal rescue and rehabilitation.

Friends of the Asian Elephant Hospital

The center was founded in 1993 by Soraida Salwala, who is a pioneer in the field of elephant conservation and rehabilitation. Surin Project
